Summary
Across Europe, women carry the overwhelming burden of informal long‑term care for older family members — often without recognition, support, or access to flexible working arrangements. This unequal distribution of care work reinforces gender inequalities in employment, income, and wellbeing. CareDivide addresses this persistent gender gap by promoting gender‑transformative approaches in workplaces, public policy, and the media.
The project operates in Romania, Cyprus, Greece, Spain, and Italy — countries where informal care is widespread and where women’s caregiving responsibilities significantly limit their labour‑market participation. CareDivide brings together employers, business representatives, civil society organisations, and innovation centres to strengthen awareness, build capacity, and challenge the stereotypes that sustain the gender care divide.
Through research, training, advocacy, and awareness‑raising, CareDivide aims to:
- support companies in adopting flexible, family‑friendly working arrangements
- build the capacity of managers and HR staff to implement inclusive practices
- promote the adoption and effective implementation of EU and national frameworks on work–life balance
- challenge gender stereotypes in public discourse around care and employment
- promote shared responsibility for care work across society
In the long term, CareDivide seeks to reduce gender inequalities in employment and support a cultural shift toward valuing care as a shared social responsibility.
